  • The calm of the streets of Trinidad, Cuba, glowing in the evening light. It's well worth staying in one of the "casa particular" guest houses and along with the warm hospitality to listen to fascinating tales of the country's recent changes.

  • Beach life in Rio de Janeiro - the calm before a football match. Beaches in Rio are a such a centre for life and the dramatic social gaps are not easy to see as everyone comes in beachwear to play / dance / swim together. The evening sea-breeze blows a hazy mist across the beach to give this gentle glow.

  • Who'd fancy an elephant surfacing next to them when kayaking through a lake.? It's an interesting experience, here off Rubondo Island in Lake Victoria we had three coming past us in the evening light. They were on their way to shore to knock over a few trees and find shelter for the night. A wonderful experience. @asiliaafrica

  • Walking the streets of Trinidad de Cuba. These wonderfully preserved Spanish colonial style streets come alive with the glow of both the morning and evening sun. Combined with classic vintage cars scattered about it is a remarkable place to explore - and a number of the very friendly Casas Particulares, where you stay with the local families

  • Storytelling in Bukhara. "In the evening, after the muezzin has sounded from the minaret the call to prayer, the men of the city gather around the ponds ...No loud speech breaks the spell; items of scandal and the news of the day are exchanged in discreet whispers. So it was centuries ago in Bukhara; so it is today." Gustav Krist 1937 Alone through the forbidden land

  • Sunset over the Mesquite Flat Sands Dunes. Iconic dunes in central Death Valley near to Stovepipe Wells and a short walk off Highway 190. The dunes are larely windblown so there are no formal trails and it's wonderful to enjoy the evening light (and away from the midday heat)

  • Evening light in the harbour of Axmouth. On the Devon Coast of England this was a key harbour ...until the 14th century when a part of the nearby cliff fell into the harbour, blocking much of it. More popular now as a great walking route link from the cliffs of Beer Head and Seaton to the Jurassic Coast and the amazing number of fossilised remains constantly being uncovered.

  • The beaches of Rio de Janeiro at sunset have a particular vibe. Here on the beach of Barra and the Praia do Pepê is very different to the more well known Copacabana and Ipanema stretches. The sea mist and setting sun add that fabulous glow to the air.

  • Temple of the Great Jaguar, or Tikal Temple I. Built around 732CE this is one of the largest temples in Tikal, which itself is one of the largest cities and archaeological sites of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization in Mesoamerica. Re-discovered by the West in 1848 and now another UNESCO world heritage site, even today approaching the temples through the jungle adds a wonderful sense of mystery and curiosity. Sitting on top of the temples looking out over the jungle equally adds to the fascination.

  • Summer blooms over Chamonix Valley 🇫🇷. Looking out from the Bellevue Plateau (1900m / 6233ft). Even if you are not on the alpine routes, there are several hundred kilometres of trails and hiking routes through glorious alpine meadows past waterfalls and glaciers ... plus the glorious clear mountain air makes it that much more enjoyable.
