  • The Cellars-Hohenort. Sitting on the back of Table Mountain, as well as a lovely place to base yourself to explore the region, this is a charming spot to enjoy the food and wine of the Cape in a working vineyard, not far from the amazing Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens

  • The Great Migration in The Serengeti. Watching this natural wonder of a sea of nearly 2 million wildebeest, escorted by over 250,000 zebra around the Serengeti and Masai Maara , following the rains and food supply. No wonder it was chosen as one of the first natural World Heritage Sites.

  • Elephants in the Tarangire National Park of Tanzania, a fascinating park established in 1970, covering over 1,100 square miles / 2,800 square kilometres. Particularly good to see some young and baby elephants here in this critical ecosystem. Whilst known for it's elephants it is also a key route for migratory wildebeest whose presence helps minimise the predation on the resident giraffe and other mammals

  • The Great Migration in the Serengeti and Maasai. Being apart of this incredible natural phenomenon with over a million wildebeast guided by over 200,000 zebras in search of fresh grazing fills all the senses. The herd moves in wavers across the Rift Valley and when you get caught in one, the air is filled with scents and sounds.

  • Who'd fancy an elephant surfacing next to them when kayaking through a lake.? It's an interesting experience, here off Rubondo Island in Lake Victoria we had three coming past us in the evening light. They were on their way to shore to knock over a few trees and find shelter for the night. A wonderful experience. @asiliaafrica

  • Barranco camp (3976m - 13,044ft) on Kilimanjaro. Usually only one more camp before you attempt the walk to the summit is a great acclimatisation point and you get to see some of the unique giant Lobelia flowers and mountain animals scurrying about, as well as a chance to look up at The Breach (for a technical ascent) and the Barranco Wall - where you will go the next morning.

  • Graceful and quick the impala is able to leap distances of up to 10m / 33 feet and run up to 80km/h to help get away from predators. They are diurnal, which means they are most active in the early morning and right before sunset - another reason to start those game-drives early.

  • The historic Vergelegen wine estate near to Stellenbosch in the Western Cape of South Africa is a wine estate with great history and also a couple of national monument trees (giant camphors) to sit under. The wines were dramatically affected by the phylloxera blight and it was only since 1987 when AmFarms (part of Anglo American) purchased the estate has the estate, gardens and buildings really come back to life. As the first place Nelson Mandela came to meet his newly formed ANC (May 1990) after leaving Robbin Island it also has a strong place in South African modern history.
