Rubondo Island Airport. This remote grass airstrip is on Africa's largest island reserve in the south-west corner of Lake Victoria and became a game reserve in 1965. A chimp colony is being habituated and there are fascinating walks through the jungles to visit them. There is a familiar mix of lake birds and animals as well as a number of other protected animals. The Island Camp is pretty much the only place to stay and explore by land, boat or canoe (dodging hippos and crocs of course!)
