  • Desert road from Death Valley to Lone Pine
    2014FebruaryCalifornia089.jpg
  • Walking in the Tajik-Kyrgyz border region of the High Pamirs and Tian Shan mountains is a magical experience. Fascinating to visit some of the old trading posts along the original Silk Road from Osh to Kashgar. The tents might have been a bit antique but the views are timeless

  • Balloons and mist rising over the temple plains of Bagan, Myanmar
    Myanmar-0373-20170302.jpg
  • Looking over Mer de Glace from Montenvers. Both fascinating and slightly tragic to see how far and fast the glacier has receded in the past 20 years.

  • 2011MayBrazil138.jpg
  • Reflected trees in the flooded Juma Lake, Amazonas
    2011MayBrazil162.jpg

  • Sahara dunes. Fascinating and daunting to look out into the largest hot desert on the planet (Arctic and Antarctic being larger, cold deserts), its surface area of 9,400,000 square kilometres (3,630,000 square miles) including the Libyan Desert and covers about 1/4 of the African continent it is comparable to the land areas of China or the United States.

  • Grasmere from Rydal Fell whilst walking the Fairfield Horseshoe by Ambleside. One of the classic circular walks in the English Lake District. It's about 16.4km (10.2 miles) with nearly 1000m of ascent and has spectacular views over the Lakes below - and you can 'bag' 8 Wainwrights in one walk.

  • Firestone Vineyard. Founded in 1972 was Santa Barbara county's first estate winery and is in the peaceful Santa Ynez Valley near the town of Los Olivos. It's pretty sandy soil so there's not a lot of nutrients and as a result, some well concentrated flavours from the wines.
    2014FebruaryCalifornia053.jpg
  • Moody shot of a joshua tree by the highway on the way to Death Valley
    2014FebruaryCalifornia078.jpg
  • Natural wonders, getting up close to the Devil's Throat of the Iguazu Falls with this glorious rainbow from the spray rising off the waterfalls, part of the 2.7km long collection of waterfalls. This great view from the Argentine side of the Iguazu river.About half of the river's flow falls into a long and narrow chasm called the Devil's Throat (Garganta del Diablo in Spanish or Garganta do Diabo in Portuguese).
    2010SeptemberBrazil117.jpg
  • Sunset over the Mesquite Flat Sands Dunes. Iconic dunes in central Death Valley near to Stovepipe Wells and a short walk off Highway 190. The dunes are larely windblown so there are no formal trails and it's wonderful to enjoy the evening light (and away from the midday heat)
    2014FebruaryCalifornia109.jpg
  • Summer haze and paths through the ripe wheat crops
    2014AugustCots015.jpg
  • Looking down to the Aletch glacier from the Jungfraujoch at 3,466 metres (11,371 ft). The largest glacier in the Alps (about 23 km / 14 miles long) is still around 1km thick in parts and if you are lucky, to hike and spend time out under clear night skies.
    Switzerland-022-20150628.jpg
  • Mountain hut on the back face of the Eiger (3,970m), Jungfrau (4,158m) and Mönch (4,107m) peaks in the Bernese Oberland, Switzerland. Great location for climbers, walkers and mountain enthusiasts from serious to amateur.
    Switzerland-031-20150628.jpg
  • Looking across to the Jungfrau (4,158 m / 13,642 ft) from the railway station at Kleine Sheidegg (2,061m / 6,762ft). An ideal stepping off point for summer walks, hikes, climbing and plenty of winter sport.
    Switzerland-054-20150628.jpg
  • Misty mountain hop. Dramatic clouds and mist rising after a storm in Chamonix valley
    Chamonix-031-20160805.jpg
  • The beautiful paths alongside the Canal des Deux Mers, ideal for walks and cycle rides as well as canalboat cruising. A wonderful cycling route nearly 800km long linking the Atlantic to the Mediterranean.

  • Fascinating landscape at Zabriskie Point. Zabriskie Point is a part of Amargosa Range, east of Death Valley in Death Valley National Park in California, noted for its erosional landscape. It is composed of sediments from Furnace Creek Lake, which dried up 5 million years ago—long before Death Valley came into existence

  • Switzerland-121-20150701.jpg
  • Rice paddy fields beside Lake Inle, Taungyi, Myanmar / Burma. Home to the Intha people. Rice is one of the most important crops for the country and the country is sometime know as the 'rice bowl' of Asia given it's importance - although the many years of military rule have hampered productivity improvements.
